The Firework Makers Daughter – November 2019
Monday 4th November 2019
Today we were preparing to read our book for this half term, “The Firework Maker’s Daughter”. Before we read the first chapter, we made a firework in a jam jar using oil, water and food colouring. This led us to think about fireworks and how it would feel to make them. We also watched the fireworks from New Year in London which was exciting.

We also did some investigation into the setting of the book – the first sentence of the books reads “A thousand miles ago in a country east of the jungle and south of the mountains…” and we worked out that this must be in Asia. We looked at some information books and pictures of rickshaws, elephants and Turkish Delight which are mentioned in the first chapter.
We looked up some of the words we are going to come across in the chapter such as scorched, pestilential and quivering.
It’s raining learning-South America class kick off their Rainforest topic with a bush tucker trial!
